COLSTON HALL LOOKING FORWARD TO A NIGHT OF MULTI-CULTURAL SINGING
Colston Hall Bristol is delighted to be hosting 'Sing Out!' an extraordinary double bill of contemporary choral music from The Shout and David Darling and the Bunan Singers on Friday 21st May.
David Darling and the Bunan Singers
At the heart of this extraordinary collaboration stands the ancient tradition of polyphonic choral singing of the Bunun people from Taiwan, combined with the sumptuous sound of live and pre-recorded cello. Built around the traditional Bunun song repertoire, ranging from drinking songs to harvest prayers this unique musical adventure reveals a sound of rare beauty and silent strength.

Grammy-nominated cellist, David Darling is internationally acclaimed as a composer, performer, conductor and teacher. His unconventional approach to the cello has helped redefine the instrument and lead him to work with artists as diverse as Bobby McFerrin, Jan Garbarek, and Johnny Cash. In a long-standing career, he has recorded many times for the ECM label as well as writing film scores for Wim Wenders and Jean-Luc Goddard.
For this special project, Darling spent time recording and composing with the Bunun Singers in their home in Wulu Village, opening their unique style of richly-harmonic singing to fresh interpretation and creating a fascinating dialogue between the ancient and contemporary.
