Dear: President, The Rt.Honourable the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Simon Cook, Officers, Executive Members, Members and Friends
I am delighted to give a summary of last years activities between Bristol and Guangzhou our Sister Cities.
28th April 2004
Guangzhou Economic Commission of Guangzhou Municipality Delegation visited Bristol - Headed by Mr Ping Xinguang and his delegation. There were 14 very sizable companies in Guangzhou participating on this visit:

Before the visit Mr Ping the Director General the approached Bristol-China-Partnership for our co-ordination and help for planning the program in advance.
Many thanks also to UKTI and UWE who sponsored this event. It was a great turn out in which around 150 people attended.
17-12th July 2004 Guangzhou Sister-City Football Tournament
The Sister-City Football Tournament between four countries were;
Bristol - Bristol Rover Football Club under 19
Auckland - Three King United Soccer Club
Korea – Gwangju Sangmu Football Club
Guangzhou – Sunraycave Football Club, the host country
9th July 2004
Opening Ceremony – Guangzhou VS Bristol
Result – 6 : 1 to Guangzhou
– Gwangju VS Auckland
Result – 7 : 1 to Gwangju
11th July 2004
3rd, 4th Placing Match
Result – 4th Place, Auckland
– 3rd Place, Bristol Rover Football Club, awarded a bronze Cup and US$10,000 prize money
Final Match – Guangzhou VS Gwangju
Result – 3 : 1 to Gwangju
– 2nd Place, Guangzhou, Awarded a Silver Cup and US$20,000 prize money
– 1st Place, Gwangju, Awarded Trophy Cup and US$30,000 prize money
These were the first sport exchanges between our Sister Cities. The trip and the whole tournament was a magnificent and memorable one to the Bristol Rover boys and everyone else. A special thanks to Mr Kevin Hamblin, Principal of the Filton College, John Hughes of Mail Marketing International Limited and other supporters to make this trip happen. And also thank you Kevin for offering two Young Footballer Scholarship to train in Bristol. The two boys started training since September 2004.
25-26th October 2004
Guangdong Delegation visit UK – Headed by Mr Huang Huahua, Governor of Guangdong Provinces with 21 Mayors from the Guangdong Province and also included 105 Enterprise companies.
25th October 2004 – Kam Wong and Members of Confederation of Chinese Association UK, members of staffs from the Chinese Embassy has hosted a dinner reception for the Governor and his delegation in a Chinese Restaurant.
26th October 2004 – The BCP President, the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr. Simon Cook, Cllr Peter Abraham and Kam Wong were invited to London and met some members of the Guangdong delegation and Mr Donald Tsang, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Specal Administrative Region. Now he is Acting Governor for the Hong Kong Government.

6th Annual Banquet Dinner at Dynasty Restaurant 29th October 2004
Members and guests joined the Rt. Hon the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councilor Simon Cook and other VIPs to celebrate our Sister City success with Guangzhou and our 6th Anniversary of the Bristol China Partnership at the Dynasty Restaurant, St Thomas Street, Bristol.

The Lord Mayor, the Chairman and other VIP delivered a few words of encouragement to mark the success of Bristol China Partnership for the last six years. The highlight of the evening was the superb entertainment provided by Chinese Musicians.

A NOTE OF THANKS
The BCP was formed in 1998. In 2004 is the most active and productive year. Bristol-China-Partnership would like to express it's sincere gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Zha Peixin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the UK, The Mayor of Guangzhou Mr LIN Shusen, the Party Secretary of Guanghzou Municipal People’s Government, Mr Christopher Wood Consul General of HM British Government, The Bristol City Council, The Ex-Lord Mayor Cllr.Graham Robertson OBE, Ex-Lord Mayor Cllr. Bill Martin, Our President The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Simon Cook, the UKTI, RDA, UOB, HSBC, University South West of England, offered a MBA Scholarship for the GZ Government young staff to study in UWE, and all the people who have been involved with the BCP. Together with the support of it's sponsors who have enabled us to develop closer links with the people of China.
