Guangzhou Delegation Visit

The delegation is due to visit Bristol as part of the 10th Anniversary of the twinning agreement between Bristol and Guangzhou.
They wish to formally recognise and celebrate this occasion with a formal visit to Bristol in 2011. The visit is being co-ordinated by the Bristol China Partnership.
Guangzhou
, also (especially formerly) known as Canton or Kwangchow,is the capital and largest city of the Guangdong province in the People's Republic of China. Located in southern China on the Pearl River, about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong, Guangzhou is a key national transportation hub and trading port.One of the five National Central Cities, it holds sub-provincial administrative status. Guangzhou is the third-largest city in China and southern China's largest city. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 6 million, and an urban area population of roughly 11.85 million, making it the third most populous metropolitan area in China.
Guangzhou is a sub-provincial city. It has direct jurisdiction over ten districts and two county-level cities
Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress
is the local state municipality. There are 505 representatives for the 13th session of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress. The Standing Committee of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress consists of 1 chairman, 7 vice-chairmen, 1 secretary general and 34 members. The working bodies of the Standing Committee are as follows: 2 general offices and 8 commissions. The Standing Committee exercises its power in accordance with the Constitution and local organic law. Generally speaking, there are 4 rights of the Standing Committee of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress, namely, legislative power, supervisory power, discretionary power, and personnel patronage power.
Delegation Information
Ms. Yang Wu
is the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee, mainly in charge of the Commission for Election and Liaison and the Commission for Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs.
Ms. Wang Pingsheng
is the member of the Standing Committee and Director General of the Commission for Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs. The functions of the Commission for Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs are as follows: supervise the work of the departments of the municipal people’s government concerning overseas Chinese and foreign affairs; draft and preliminarily examine local regulations and important issues relating overseas Chinese and foreign affairs; organize the representatives to inspect the law enforcement and the work concerning overseas Chinese and foreign affairs of the city; be responsible for the exchanges between the Standing Committee and foreign city councils.
Mr. Chen Yue
is the member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Director General of the Commission for Urban Construction, Environment and Resources Protection. The functions of the Commission for Urban Construction, Environment and Resources Protection are as follows: supervise the work of the departments of the municipal people’s government concerning urban construction, environment and resources protection; draft and preliminarily examine local regulations and important issues relating urban construction, environment and resources protection.
Mr. Ren Liaoyue
is the Deputy Director General of the Office under the Municipal Leading Group for Administering the City According to Law, responsible for drafting plans for administering the city according to law as well as supervise and inspect the implementation of these plans.
Mr. Wang Shaoqiang
is the Deputy Director General of the General Office of the Standing Committee. The General Office is mainly in charge of the organization of important meetings and activities of the Standing Committee, and handling the daily documents and administrative affairs of the Standing Committee.
Mr. Chen Jianzhi
is the Deputy Director General of the Research Office of the Standing Committee. The functions of the Research Office are as follows: draft the important papers such as the work plan and the work report of the Standing Committee; carry out inspections on important issues in the work plan of the Standing Committee; be responsible for the organization of the press release and news report of the Standing Committee.
