The Lord Mayor of Bristol received a special gift from the Mayor of Guangzhou, a marvellous sculpture from jade stone in the shape of a fish symbolising good luck The three leading partners
in the historic agreement, BCP Chairman Mr Kam Wong, The Rt. Hon the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr. Graham Robertson and the Mayor of Guangzhou Mr. Lin Shusen

Bristol China Partnership was formed in 1998 and is a voluntary group of local people creating ties between Bristol and China. Together with the City Council their have forged a historic links with the City of Guangzhou. On the 23rd May 2001, the Mayor of Guangzhou and an Official Delegation visited Bristol to sign "A Sister City Agreement" this was signed at the ceremony, which was held at Bristol’s Council House.

The Lord Mayor of Bristol presented an Original Picture to the Mayor of Guangzhou, printed by Mr Vincent Neave, President of the Bristol Savages, which was specially commissioned for the visit and is a scene of Bristol featuring the famous Suspension Bridge.

After the Ceremony a reception was held in the Conference Hall and entertainment was performed by the Children of Guangzhou.
